Seems like it was written for an outdated version of the AWS site that is served to old clients

There's something you need to be aware about this book if you're new to AWS. It seems that it is either outdated (improvable given that it was released just a couple of days ago, but maybe they started to be write it years ago and released just now..) or it was written with an outdated version of the AWS site that is served to old AWS clients, which would be understandable if you read the authors bio at the beginning but it's an unforgivable editing oversight since the reader isn't warned about this. I'm just starting but there have been several assumptions made in the book that are just weird. For example they keep telling you to choose either EC2-VPC or EC2-Classic but EC2-Classic isn't available for new clients anymore and they don't tell you this in the book.

So far it's a good book and I will update this score when I finish reading it or find another way to contact the authors (I found no contact information regarding errata listed in the book). I was waiting to finish the book before posting but I thought I should let everyone know before everything else is drowned out by the 5 stars reviews written by people that haven't finished reading it either.

Good as reference, lot of questions, some details to improve though

Cons:
- I have to agree with one of the reviews above, there are things that are outdated or even discontinued, seems they wrote few chapters long ago and others just a month ago.
- In my opinion something worth to mention is the way they wrote the Security chapter (12). This was rather confusing if you compare with the rest of the book, e.g. they mention a service, and instead to highlight the security features use two paragraphs to describe the service and how works, advantages, etc. ( when this was already explained in previous chapters), may be good to refresh your knowledge, although in my case make me lost focus a bit. Some parts on this chapter are literally a "copy&paste" of the AWS security whitepaper, maybe that is the reason. Even in the summary part they also do the same a bit, Exam Essentials are OK though.
- The exercises are too simple or too generic, with not much explanation and referring to amazon manuals.

Pros:
- One value of this book is that it comes with the exams and a fair amount of questions.
- Is a good complement to study or to get into AWS
- Most of the book is a good digested version of whitepapers and official documentation
- The fact to be the "official study guide" wrote by some people related to the exam may give you some piece of mind when going to the test :)

No climber has tainted its slopes, for Kailas has been sacred for over 1000 years. The Start to a Good Series

I read this book as the begining of a series which turned out to be a waste of my time... Ms. Browning suckers one into reading the other books because this one was actually pretty good.
I'll recommend this one but don't bother on finishing the series, because the gulity party is so obivious that it hurts.

This book is fabulous ! After ordering this for my daughter's college class, she began speaking like an authoritative politician :-) Seriously, it was a great book for an A for my fabulous daughter's college class. She now "public speaks" around the house and "learns me". Joking aside, great book. I didn't have to read it, I saw the results in action !

"I even like the parts most people hate--shopping in crowded malls and reading Christmas newsletters and seeing relatives and standing in baggage check-in lines at the airport. Okay, I lied. Nobody likes standing in baggage check-in lines," she writes. Willis knows it's hard to write good Christmas stories: the subject matter is limited, the writer has to balance between sentiment and skepticism, and too many fall into the Victorian habit of killing off saintly children and poor people. Here she presents eight marvelous Christmas tales, two of which appear for the first time.

The stories range from "The Pony," about a psychotherapist who doesn't believe that Christmas gifts can answer our deepest longings, and "Inn," in which a choir member rehearsing for the Christmas pageant becomes part of the original Christmas story, to "Newsletter," where an invasion of parasitic creatures causes unusually good behavior in their hosts, and "Epiphany," a story of three unlikely Magi following signs through a North American winter toward the returned Jesus Christ. "Miracle" is a comic romance echoing Willis's favorite Yuletide movie, Miracle on 34th Street, and "Catspaw" is a homage to the traditional Christmas murder mystery with a sly, science-fictional twist. The witty, literate Willis offers a wonderfully enjoyable ode to Christmas with this collection of eight fantastic seasonal tales. In "Inn," Willis turns what could have been a maudlin church choir story into a poignant tale with a time-travel twist. The title piece, "Miracle," is a screwball office comedy in which It's a Wonderful Life is soundly trounced in favor of Miracle on 34th Street, and the spirit of an ecologically aware surfer appears to give a reluctant heroine her heart's desire. A world-class jerk gets a Twilight Zone-like comeuppance in "In Coppelius's Toy Shop," while in the ominous "The Pony," the characters find exactly what they truly want under the tree. "Adaptation" blends literary and paternal love as two characters from Dickens's "A Christmas Carol" and a modern-day Scrooge become part of a lonely bibliophile's holiday. Throughout the book, Willis's well-crafted stories fuse traditional holiday plots with SF and fantasy elements to good effect. For example, her take on the British country-house Christmas mystery, "Cat's Paw," stars a world-famous sleuth and his slightly foggy assistant Abut it's set in a futuristic steel-and-glass manor and involves a plot that pivots around primate-rights activism. This is a collection that will entertain readers both in and out of season; and as a stocking-stuffer for SF fans, it's a merry delight. (Nov.) Buy one for yourself and everyone you know!

Connie Willis is, without a doubt, one of the finest writers of sci fi short stories out there right now. Almost every short story by her is really a delight to read, and this collection doesn't fail to meet that standard. What kind of stories can you expect here? A take off on the movie Miracle on 34th Street, a view of Revelation coming as a carnival, and many more. The only story in this collection that was not a perfect 10 from my point of view was Cat's Paw. I just could not get fully into the story and it was a little long for this collection. Willis speaks in the introduction of her love of the Christmas season and this really shines through in all of these stories. My favorite story in the collection is the final story about Revelation. It was one of the most insightful touching stories I have read this year.
In addition, if you normally read sci fi and would like to expose friends and family to sci fi, this is an excellent and gentle introductory collection and makes a convenient Christmas gift. No really bizarre aliens, no "hard" sci fi edge, just enjoyable reading. Great for sci fi aficionados and those new to sci fi as well!

The Spirit of Christmas - with a Sci Fi twist

Set during the Chrsitmas season, these stories illustrate the Christmas values of generosity of spirit, renewal and discovery of faith in characters who are recognizably like us, ground down by everyday problems and cares.
The way the characters allow the spirit of Christmas to guide them in the recovery of faith and hope made my eyes fill with tears (a little embarrassing when reading on the subway, as I was).
The science fiction genre simply allows for more possibilities in the plot. The stories are all Christmas stories at heart and science fiction in mind.

Wonderful very off beat Christmas Stories

These stories start off in the oddest directions, but stay with them. Each one, by the end, has made a thought provoking point.
Your heart will smile but they are impossible to describe. I tried to tell my daughter about the gorilla murder mystery and that it really is a great Christmas story but she didn't believe me. The stories are short so you can pick it up and put it down and not feel guilty about all the seasonal chores you forgot.
